Vintage Scandinavian Rug with “Monster” Design, Country Of Origin: Scandinavia, Circa Date: Mid-Twentieth Century – Here is a compelling vintage carpet – a vintage Scandinavian carpet that was woven during the middle years of the twentieth century. Delightfully imaginative and whimsical, this charming piece of textile art features a fanciful depiction of a monstrous figure, with the body of a bird and a strange, blue mammalian head. The bird monster is depicted eating a snake as it stands on a large branch. Few other details appear in this Scandinavian rug: only an abstract red shape on the left, that appears to be standing on a sloping hill of grey, and the outline of a single five-pointed star that appears in the upper-right hand portion of the scene. A simple border consisting of alternating black and golden stripes frames the piece, and the artist’s signature appears in the lower-right portion of the piece. Exciting and unique, this vintage Scandinavian carpet is deeply evocative of the imaginative forms that dominated abstract art during the early to mid-twentieth century. Unique and alluring, this vintage Scandinavian carpet is an exciting example.
