Vintage Scandinavian Mid Century Modern Swedish Rug, Country of Origin: Sweden, Circa Date: Mid 20th Century – Crafted by the MMF atelier – one of the most respected producers of vintage rugs – using one of the founder’s iconic carpet designs, this stately vintage Scandinavian rollaken features a transitional composition that skillfully combines formal elements with modern details. Known as ‘Green Meadow’ or ‘Grön Äng,’ this classical Fjetterstrom pattern features a grand compartmental field lined with tonal blue-green stripes that are punctuated with colorful churn-dash flowers. Coffered blossoms with turreted petals are expertly re-purposed in the verdant jadeite borders, which give the composition an alluring sense of unity. Blushing mulberry-red dividers enunciate the compartmental units along with tiny hash-mark accent pieces that are a Fjetterstrom hallmark. The consistency of the clever repeating pattern is expertly altered in selected churn-dash units that feature striped blocks, which play off the neighboring coffered boxes and give the congenial composition an attractively homogeneous appearance.
