The geometric shapes make it perfect for a vintage or modern room. Many midcentury design elements are once again finding their way into contemporary homes. Finding a piece by a well-known mid-century modern artist is a real treat.
Eve Nemeth was a designer at the Csaba Rug Weaving Factory from 1966 throughout the 1970’s. She was born in Budapest. She was educated at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Hungary. She is a Hungarian artist, but her work was deeply inspired by the Scandinavian rugs that were popular at the time. She is often grouped with “Scandinavian” textile designers more for her style than for where she created her work.
Throughout her career, she participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, mostly in Budapest. She also participated in several shows in Paris. She won many competitions and prestigious awards for her original textile designs. Many of them feature abstract birds and flowers in geometric shapes. Her works have an organic feel in the subjects, colors, and overall aesthetics. The work of contemporary Scandinavian designers is apparent in her work.
This Swedish rug is signed NE in the lower right corner, which is her characteristic signature. Many of Nemeth’s pieces have a primitive feel, which was a popular element in mid-century modern design. It gives the pieces a “human” character and a connection that is earthy and grounded. Many of today’s designers try to mimic this same aesthetic in modern pieces.
This is a delightful rug from Scandinavia that will make a cheerful addition to an authentic vintage retro-inspired interior. It has a rustic feel that would be perfect for a modern farmhouse themed room or to add a touch of nature to an ultra modern one. The use of open space in the vintage rug gives it a minimalist feel that allows each element to stand out. This kilim rug has a unique charm that will make the perfect addition to any vintage or modern space.
