Vintage Marta Maas Fjetterstrom Swedish Rug, Origin: Scandinavia, Circa: Mid 20th Century – Richly decorated, this stately vintage rug created circa 1950 by the famed Marta Maas Fjetterstrom features a radiant medallion surrounded by a tremendous variety of irregular shapes with complex outlines. Zigzagging borders with polychromatic accents mirror the rectilinear edges of the central field, radiant medallion and extended pendants that control the flow of the composition. Hourglass motifs and delicate paper-cut patterns rendered in complementary neutrals embellish the complex shapes that radiate toward the edges of the field. Serrated details, inset patterns and isolated segments rendered in a complementary variety of subdued earth tones paired with cold blue details create a congenial combination. This nuanced mid-century small rug from Sweden features a complex combination of geometric figures with deep inlets that fit together like jigsaw pieces decorated with a chic combination of ivory, mushroom brown, taupe and Prussian blue.
