Antique Persian Baluch Rug, Persia, Circa 1900 – This unique Baluch carpet woven during the turn of the 20th century features traditional patterns and blossom borders woven in an innovative palette of bold colors. Flat-woven kilim ends decorated with reciprocating hooks complete the traditional theme. Brilliant white details highlight the reciprocating hooks that frame the wide borders and narrow field. The field features a series of detailed foulard motifs decorated with stars and hidden symbols. The alternating colors used to decorate each column of staggered elements add to the visual impact of the minimal field. Traditional blossom borders found on many regional carpets provide a dominant design element while uncharacteristic colors add to the striking appearance of this classic design.
