Beautiful Room Size Antique Persian Heriz Rug – This beautiful hand made antique Persian Heriz rug from the Nazmiyal Collection, was crafted during the first quarter of the Twentieth Century, around the year 1920. Antique Persian Heriz rugs, such as this one, are woven in Northwest Persia and the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan, and are renowned for their durability: Because of traces of copper in the drinking water of the sheep that graze in this area, the wool used to make Heriz carpets is particularly strong, as copper works as a natural mordant and dye fixative. Furthermore, unlike some other styles of rug from this region, Heriz carpets are woven with the symmetric Ghiordes or Turkish rug knot, which is attached to a woven foundation that includes a thick cotton warp and weft.
Aside from its durability, this impressive antique Persian rug features beautiful as well as bright colors. The combination of bold red and light blue of this rug is typical of Heriz rugs, and would add a lovely pop of color to your classically styled room. This particular antique Persian Heriz rug also features a deep navy and salmon colored geometric central medallion — another typical feature of Heriz carpets. The rug features angular castellated borders, which are balanced by curving natural motifs such as flowers, vines, and other plant life throughout, giving this Oriental rug a lively and rhythmic quality. This gorgeous antique Heriz carpet would make a lovely addition to any home or office!
Here is a striking, classically composed antique rug – an antique Serapi Heriz rug, woven in Persia during the early decades of the twentieth century. Characterized by a highly complex and precisely woven design, this antique Heriz carpet is resplendent with exquisite detail work throughout. Borders of soft blue are replete with rectilinear vine scroll patterns as well as geometric floral details. The field is equally splendid, featuring floral and vine scroll details throughout. A handsome central medallion features pale red and blue portions with classical Heriz geometric detail work. Surrounding the medallion is a large field of vibrant red, against which line work rendered in light blue stands out beautifully on this Persian rug. A lively and energetic pallet add depth to the classical composition of this delightful Heriz. The overall impression is one of great unity and balance.
