Stylized gazelles, dogs and human forms, and a crab rug design are featured along the top, bottom and right side of the field of this beautiful and tribal antique rug. Two rectangular “checkerboards,” one large and one small, rendered in contrasting black and white with red highlights are offset against the red background. Three large ram’s horns are prominently displayed. Smaller motifs typical of Caucasus tribal art add to the charming, rustic look. The complex border includes three small guards with running geometric motifs. The main border is a burst of color and form in geometric patterns of alternating colors of reds, gold, forest green, black, deep blue and sand.
