Antique Oversized Heriz Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa date: 1900 — This beautifully detailed, ornate antique rug displays a brilliant red field populated with a variety of intricate pink, cream, blue, green and white designs that strongly suggest a floral theme. Nine central geometric patterns run through the mid-line of the rug, but they are closely surrounded by other, interlocking vines and flowers. The designs extend symmetrically on both sides of the mid-line. A dark blue border contains several large floral-themed geometric shapes in red, green, cream and blue colors. It is surrounded by two narrower guard borders, red and cream respectively, containing scrolling vines and flowers. Heriz is a community located in Northwestern Iran. The finely crafted handwoven oversized rugs produced in the region are known for durability. They often involve intricately shaped geometric motifs.
