Antique Turkish Oushak Rug, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: 1900 — This beautiful Oushak Rug boasts a richly textured gold colored field displaying an interesting variety of individually unique abstracted geometric designs in blue, ivory, orange, amber and rust. The elaborate irregular motif offers great visual interest to this piece. A wide blue border holds repeating patterns in ivory, orange and gold. Two guard borders in ivory carry repeating variable numbers of floral shapes in colors used elsewhere in the rug, offering a unifying composition. Oushak Rugs carry the name of a city in Anatolia in Turkey which gained recognition as a center for the production of especially fine rugs and carpets during the days of the early Ottoman Empire. These well woven rugs became widely celebrated for demonstrating rich golden and reddish hues.
