Antique Persian Kurdish Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Late 19th century – 1890’s– Here is a charming antique rug – an antique tribal Persian Kurdish rug, woven in Persian Kurdistan. Kurdish rugs are remarkable for their traditional, tribal compositions, which generally consist of complex arrangements of geometric figures and patterns. This particular piece is exemplary of this tradition, its field filled with such traditional designs. Indeed, this comely runner length composition effectively consists of a concentric series of rectangular compositions, one laid on top of the other. In the center, the deep field is radiant with a series of traditional geometric figures. Further out, an ivory border is equally extravagantly adorned with tribal elements of design, dancing against the pale hue. A red border riddled with small floral elements follows, and, finally, the entire composition is framed by a narrow gold border, also richly decorated. A complex and dazzling tribal composition, this antique Persian rug runner is a wonderful example of traditional Kurdish rug design.
