Small Scatter Size Tribal Antique Shirvan Rug, Country of Origin: Caucasus, Circa Date: Early 20th Century — The rich brown, blue, pink and white colors of this stunning antique rug from the Caucasus Mountains reflect great attention to detail. The rug displays eight blue and white medallions on a brown field, grouped in two columns. Each carries four pink flowers around a central cross. The medallions offset three brown crosses running along the central mid-line of the rug, each bearing a unique design in the center. A brown border carries repeating geometric shapes and is flanked on either side by two thin, unique guard borders. The Shirvan Tribal area lies in the far eastern extension of the Caucasus Mountains, in the area of Iran to the east of the Caspian Sea. For centuries, this mountainous region has produced exceptionally durable, woven and knotted rugs.
