Antique Tribal Caucasian Kazak Rug, Caucasus – This dazzling antique Caucasian Kazak rug displays a vibrant assemblage of classic Lesghi stars adorned with ancient cultural symbols. Decorative blossoms, angular people, rustic animals, geometric birds and S-hooks dot the field in a tightly spaced arrangement that is amplified by the dark walnut-colored ground. Even the closely outlined Lesghi stars feature additional iconography ornamentation, including S-hooks, double ram’s horns and quincunx motifs. The marvelous assortment of tribal symbols that appears in the field is accompanied by archetypal running dog borders rendered in a traditional Caucasian hue of forget-me-not blue. Boldly decorated inner borders display pendulous beetle-shaped blossoms suspended from rectilinear vines. Carefully drawn herdsman with individually outlined fingers and heavily stylized animals enhance the classical borders.
