Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug, Country of Origin: Caucasus, – Festive red and white colors dominate this antique Caucasian rug, which features three figures aligned along the vertical. Each of these could be described as three rectangles nestled over one another, creating a stairstep perimeter. The shapes are decorated with small crosses and square designs, alternating red with white. A faint blue background cradles the medallions with their squared edges on the Shirvan, allowing them to float as if against a winter sky. Many small, eight-pointed stars are stitched alongside, increasing the visual effect of the snow. A set of narrow borders encloses the central area, each stark with bright red and white, touched with bare hints of green and blue on the antique rug.
