Antique Tribal Persian Kurdish Rug, Persia, Circa 1900 – This colorful antique Kurdish rug from Persia features a sophisticated latticework pattern with tiled cells rendered in alternating colors and embellished with symbolic latch hook dragon motifs. Traditional dragon motifs rendered in alternating colors represent a benevolent protector of life with power over the earth, air, water and weather. Ivory inner borders feature wine cup embellishments and divided squares set around reciprocating vine scrolls. Sapphire blue outer borders feature poly chromatic lozenges decorated with jewel-shaped accents and flanked by barber-pole pillars. The alternating border motifs are juxtaposed against a decorative end piece featuring a variety of colorful ladders with directional fingerling extensions. This exquisitely colored rug is packed with meaningful symbols and vibrant colors that add to the tribal panache of this antique Kurdish rug from Persia.
