Antique Caucasian Kazak Rug, Origin: Caucasus– Crafted by Kazak weavers in Caucasia, this dramatic hand-knotted antique area rug showcases a beautifully styled series of stacked lozenges that are accented by thoughtful, meaningful symbols that are easy to appreciate from a designer’s or collector’s standpoint. This triad of grand rectilinear medallions has a bold presence; however, the secondary decorations are no less important. Fretwork accents line each stepped medallion giving it the appearance of a famous Memling gul or dragon figure. These grand medallions are framed by serrated stars that seem to extend behind the borders in infinite rapport. This lavish collection of stepped-lozenge guls is framed by dainty S-scroll guard bands and graphic main borders featuring stacked elibelinde motifs linked by a central pillar. This antique Caucasian Kazak rug has a strong graphic presence with ornaments that introduce the viewer to a world of symbols.
