Antique Persian Sultanabad Rug, Persia, 1900 — A beautiful antique Persian Sultanabad rug, this item displays a cinnamon shaded ivory field, bearing an intricate floral motif of repeating red-stemmed red, blue and pink flowers. The colors along the top of the field appear more distinct than those towards the bottom. A thin blue border displays straight rows of single blossoms, interspersed with ruyi or palmette symbols and buds. It is surrounded on either side by a narrow red guard border of scrolled blue, red and pink flowers. During the Nineteenth Century, Sultanabad became a center for the manufacture of elegant, ornate hand made rugs and carpets.
