Antique Persian Rugs — Antique Bidjar Persian Wagireh Rug, late 19th century rug – This stunning antique Bijar Wagireh or rug pattern sampler is marvelously effective as a rug in its own right. Half the main medallion appears toward the bottom of the field like a small mihrab or niche, surmounted by the detail of the allover rug design Herati network that would fill the rest of the field. As it is, the design doubles as a prayer rug composition with the sections of the main borders as panels above and below, and minor borders framing it to either side. The rich saturated color and lustrous wool contribute to the opulent effect of the classical Persian ornamental detail.
