Small Collectible Antique Caucasian Kuba Rug, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Caucasian Rugs, Circa Date: 1900 – Elegantly simplistic in a fashion similar to art deco rugs, this antique Caucasian Kuba rug takes traditional Caucasian decorative tropes and applies them in a new way. The largest and thickest border is surrounded on its outer side by two thinner corded frames, ones that feature alternating colors in white and red and black and yellow. These four tones are present throughout the rest of the antique Caucasian rug, established in a series of diamonds that run along the thickest border’s interior. A variety of outlines are used to contrast against the yellow interior of the border, leading the viewer’s eyes to the core of the antique rug. Here, a series of diagonal stripes run along the entire length of the interior, presented in a random order of colors that suggests a uniquely organized chaos. The uniform space brings to mind regal banners and heraldic coats of arms.
