Small tribal Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Caucasian Rug, Circa Date: 1900 – True to the traditional style of antique Caucasian rugs, this attractive antique Shirvan rug features rigid and defining lines, set up at skillfully chosen locations to provide viewers with ample points of interest to explore. The color palette heavily relies on contrasting tones, and there are numerous warm colors that complement the Stygian black and milky white colors throughout. A multitude of borders frame around each other, leading the viewer’s eye closer and closer to the core of the antique rug as they browse over the various patterns established within the borders. Pomegranates, blossoms and fronds are the most prevalent motifs, found throughout the landscape to convey a natural arrangement, as though the viewer had stumbled upon an otherworldly vista. At the core of the rug, four angular blossoms are arranged in a column, the interior of each a different color and a home to a unique arrangement of petals and stems.
