Antique East Turkestan Khotan Rug, Country of Origin: East Turkestan, Circa Date: 1920– The wide center field of this rectangular Khotan rug from East Turkestan features a complex design of white over dark brown. Tiny leaves spring from angular branches, all winding back to round white bulbs. The fruits create the semblance of columns and rows within the repeating decoration, which fills the space entirely. Several sections of the rug showcase a more faded brown, creating stripes within the elaborate pattern. A set of lighter borders edges this antique rug, each filled with simple and stylized reiterating designs rendered in light brown with dark stitches as strong accents. The widest bar is shaded to create clouds and wind in negative space.
