Crenelated fence inner borders create a protective barrier that separates the grand inner borders from the elaborate patterns that decorate the outer perimeter. Formal double ram’s horn motifs set inside coffered compartments form a stately inner border, which transitions into a series of colorful stepped lozenges that are decorated with divided goz symbols, which provide protection from the evil eye. Supplemental barber pole guard bands emphasize the traditional Caucasian style of this stunning antique Kazak rug.
