Vintage Swedish Kilim, Origin: Sweden, Circa: Mid 20th Century – Designed by textile artist Anna Greta Sjöqvist. Cleverly composed and colored, this inventive vintage rug created circa 1950 features a versatile series of quadrilateral emblems with voided corners that decorate the field and borders creating a series of abstract blossoms rendered in alternating colors. The warm brick red field features subtly variegated details and hash-mark bars that divide the background into well apportioned segments. In the oatmeal colored borders, triple bar motifs linked by central columns alternate places with brick red quadrilaterals that mimic the emblems featured in the field. The subtle hash mark segments continue through the monochromatic borders creating individual compartments for each geometric motif. Final dovetail borders rendered in oatmeal gray and stormy blue create a constricting border that contains the bold geometric motifs. This cleverly colored rug features a limited number of opposing colors that are combined in various permutations to create a diverse result.
