Antique Tribal Geometric Room Size Persian Heriz Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Early 20th Century– This definitive Northwest Persian carpet from the famed weaving district of Heriz features a superb inset medallion with fiery brick red hues and cool Persian blues. This lavish inset design is centered around a splendid pendant-flanked octofoil surrounded by a pool of midnight blue and a fiery red frame with decorative crenellated edges. Even the spandrels feature delicate colors and stylized designs that add to the richness of this regal Northwest Persian rug. Well-defined arabesques and rectilinear vines with strong features meander around the field and flatter the angular turtle-and-vine-scroll borders. This graphic style has long been popular in the new world; however, many of the decorations have decidedly old-world origins. Protective eye motifs and quincunx variants are used as decorative space fillers and skillfully replace flower heads that fit the botanical theme.
