This superb antique Tabriz was inspired by the great Persian court ‘hunting carpets

Animal Motif Antique Persian Tabriz Rug, Country Of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – This superb antique Tabriz was inspired by the great Persian court ‘hunting carpets‘ of the Safavid period. A lavish design of sinuous vines, palmettes, and cloud bands in shades of green, mauve, and ivory sprawls dynamically across the deep magenta field. But interspersed among the exuberant floral detail there are also miniature scenes of animal combat, birds, boar, and foxes. A dazzling cloud band border set on green frames the field, with a zone of narrow saffron inscribed cartouches intervening. Nineteenth-century Persian carpets seldom capture the detail and spirit of classical models so well.
