Modern Agra Carpet, Country of Origin: India, Circa Date: Early Twenty First Century – Here is an exciting and beautifully composed modern rug – an Agra rug woven in India. Agra boasts a long and storied rug-making tradition; as a central manufacturing city with a considerable Western presence beginning in the eighteenth century, by the early twentieth century it had grown into one of the leading manufacturers of Oriental rugs designed for Western consumers. Drawn in an ostentatious curve-linear style, this quintessential modern Indian rug is modeled after the elegant arabesques created in Agra, which feature enrapturing curves and floral motifs with sublime details. This exquisite modern rug depicts a stunning floral arabesque with deeply re-curved floral motifs and sinuous vine scrolls that are set over a rich burgundy-red field, which features a simulated abrash. The broad Indo-Persian borders and strap work guard bands feature elegant palmettes and lush botanical motifs rendered in a contrasting combination of creamy white neutrals and burgundy. Feathery shading, detailed outlines and subtle accent colors emphasize the lavish composition and grandiose style of this modern Agra-style rug.
