Square Size Antique Agra Rug, Country of Origin: India, Circa Date: 1900 — In elaborate and ornate detail, this antique rug displays a repeating motif of intricate interlocking floral pear and geometric designs in ivory with black highlights against a variably shaded brown field. In some places the field’s color resembles indigo. A broad brown border depicts flowers and leaves; it also employs predominantly ivory and cream colors with some black highlights. Two thin ivory colored guard strips decorated with indigo, black and brown blossoms enclose the border. Agra, in northern India, gained acclaim over the centuries for the production of handmade rugs depicting flower motifs, often in a very meticulous style.
