Antique Bakhtiari Rug, Country Of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Early 20th Century – This superb antique Persian Bakhtiari rug is an excellent example of a popular latticework pattern that Bakhtiari weavers execute extremely well. It’s full of archetypal floral motifs and stylized palmettes that are decorated with subtle rectilinear symbols. The beautifully patterned field is broken into precise hexagonal compartments that feature decorative barber pole outlines. Contrasting background colors emphasize the lavish latticework pattern while highlighting the shrubby stylized palmettes that decorate each compartment. These recurving palmettes are decorated with latch-hooks and angular accents that resemble traditional duality symbols. Grand floral borders adorned with bold rosettes and decorative floral sprays emphasize the traditional floral theme along with the quaint minor borders, which feature a lovely series of undulating vinescrolls embellished with pendulous blossoms.
