Open Field Red Vintage Persian Gabbeh Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Vintage
The field is empty. No medallion, no motif, nothing but red wool running the full length — and it is not one red. Broad horizontal bands move through crimson, brick and a deeper wine, some shifting mid-row, the mark of a new batch of yarn joining the old. That drift is the entire design.
Leaving a field bare puts everything on the quality of the colour, which is why so few weavers attempt it. The border compensates: a row of serrated dark lozenges on ivory, hooked at the edges, with narrow tan guards outside. Against that busy frame the red reads calmer still.
At 3 ft 7 in by 6 ft 5 in it runs long and narrow — a hallway, a galley kitchen, or the foot of a bed; the 4 x 6 size rugs sit closest. This is tribal rug minimalism. Price is available on request, and the colour can be woven at room scale as a custom rug.
