Antique Persian Mahal Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: 1920’s – Here is beautifully woven and classically composed antique rug – an antique Mahal rug, woven in Persia during the second or third decade of the twentieth century. Characterized by an appealing classical composition, this antique Mahal carpet is a charming and exciting example. A series of ornate borders frames the piece, with the primary border featuring a dark background and floral and vine scroll details of a golden hue. Blue details appear in the inner and outer borders, which otherwise are characterized by the same gold and dark brown pallet that provides the primary mood for the piece. Within the field, an elegant and classical allover pattern of flowering vine scrolls unfolds, the ornate drawing of which helps to reinforce the overall sense of elegance that permeates throughout the example. Charming occasional splashes of blue add color and dimension to the field, imbuing the piece with a sense of light that enhances the overall composition.
