Neutral Camel Color Background Room Size Antique Persian Mahal Rug, Persia, Late 19th Century – A mina khani pattern or trellis of arabesques and palmettes unfolds dynamically across the field of this strikingly lovely antique Sultanabad. The drawing is rather free, informal, and animated, imparting an almost playful aspect to the composition. The real glory of the carpet, however, is the use of color, with its soft reds, rose, pale blues, apricot, mauve, and ivory, all set against a variegated pale cocoa field. In contrast to the dynamic twists and turns of the field design, the palmette border is more vertical and tranquil, and its rose ground offers an exquisite complement to the cocoa field.
