Light Ivory Fine Vintage Persian Gonbad Design Round Silk Qum Rug, country of origin: Persian Rugs, Circa date: Vintage – Qum is an ancient city that is home to over 100 mosques, each of which is a marvel of architecture and design. The beauty of the architecture in this gorgeous city was the inspiration for its magnificent gonbad design rugs. This rug was designed to look as if you are looking up at the dome of a mosque. It inspires a sense of awe and evokes a sense of the sublime.

The colors of this rug include warm brown and cream. Our color palettes have been dominated by neutrals, most of which were on the gray and blue side of the spectrum. Neutrals continue to be a part of our favorite interior designs, only now, they are moving toward browns and beiges. You can easily add these warmer colors to your palette, even if you are not quite ready to give up your lighter grays quite yet. This rug would also make an excellent addition to a room with other colors, such as cozy reds or earthy greens.

A true gonbad design rug requires a unique artistic skill that sets it apart from the more common medallion design. The gonbad design has smaller motifs in the center that slowly become larger as they work toward the edges of the piece. This gives the impression that the center is farther away as if you were looking at a mosque dome.

Rugs from Qum are famous for the level of detail they can achieve. This can be achieved only by using silk that can be spun into the thinnest threads. They often have knot counts that can be as high as 1,000 knots per square inch. This rug is signed by the workshop or master weaver who oversaw its creation. This distinction is only reserved for the finest quality rugs. This is a rare find and an excellent chance to add this spectacular piece to your home.
