Antique Persian Sultanabad Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: 1880 – Here is a grand and elegant antique Oriental rug – an antique Sultanabad carpet, woven in Persia during the final quarter of the nineteenth century. Beautifully composed, this antique Persian carpet is resplendent with classical elements of Persian rug design. Like the finest Sultanabad carpets, this antique rug features precisely woven detail work and a stately, almost regal presence. The borders, for example, are extraordinarily richly detailed. A pair of elaborately woven inner and outer borders surround the primary border, which is densely packed with flowing vine scrolls and complex floral detail elements. This is all to say nothing of the field, which is genuinely extraordinary on its own. A beautiful soft shade of blue serves as the background, and an impeccable patina has given it an added dimension. The detail work within the field, colored in shades of ivory, red and black, is remarkable. Sickle leaves and other floral and vegetal elements, impeccably woven and stately, appear throughout, giving this carpet an air of authority and tremendous presence.
