Woven circa 1880, this antique Serapi rug features a series of stepped lozenges surrounded by small symbols set over a subtly abrashed Persian blue background.

Tribal Antique Gallery Size Persian Bakshaish Runner Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century 1880’s – This elongated corridor antique rug features a stacked lozenge medallion enclosed by stepped outlines woven in contrasting colors. Each stepped lozenge is surrounded by small-scale protection symbols set over an abrashed blue field. Protection symbols, branching Tree of Life motifs and poly-chromatic leaves with re-curving details complement the cool blue field of this antique Persian rug. Clearly drawn borders featuring angular vine-scrolls, serrated leaves and rectilinear medallions contrast the cool-toned field and sienna guard-bands. Angular vine-scrolls feature serrated leaves and ladder-like hash marks. In a style familiar to northwest Persia, this antique Persian Bakshaish rug features angular motifs with strong geometry and a limited palette of sienna, ivory and Persian blue.
