Pointed oval medallions in a tight, staggered array comprise an allover network design on this lush but restrained antique Agra.

Antique Indian Agra Rug, Country Of Origin: India, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – Pointed oval medallions in a tight, staggered array comprise an allover network design on this lush but restrained antique Agra Oriental carpet. Each medallion is elaborately articulated with interior detail, as are the reciprocal concave trapezoidal spaces defined by the medallions. A monumental border made up of geometric palmettes and angular vines frames the field. But all this lavish complexity is effectively restrained or mollified by the soft, tone-on-tone coloration, which causes much of the detail to recede from view, making this a highly decorative carpet.
