Antique Persian Heriz Serapi Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – A grand ivory-ground star medallion reigns supreme across the soft red field of this strikingly beautiful antique Serapi. Ivory corner pieces of similar configuration enclose the medallion with jutting vines and palmettes filling the intervening space. The soft blue and green tones are especially lovely against the ivory and red. A vine-scroll ‘turtle’ border offers a reprise of the floral detail of the field, but on a smaller scale, while its soft blue-green ground provides a nice framing contrast to the dominant ivory and red of the field. The dynamic and spirited drawing on this incredible Persian carpet works beautifully with the highly graphic quality of design and color.
