Chock full of symbols and decorative motifs serving multiple purposes, this antique Bakshaish rug features a stunning latticework grid decorated with tree motifs.

Large Size Tribal Antique Persian Bakshaish Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa date: Late 19th Century – Created in northwest Persia, Bakshaish rugs have unique regional attributes and borrowed influences that make them similar yet different than their Persian and antique Caucasian rug counterparts. Alternating medallions rendered in a high-contrast combination of ivory and clear azure blue feature flower-flanked trees and arborescent motifs with branches emanating from central trunks. Sharply serrated latticework cells with irregular borders maximize the play between positive and negative space. Hooked-devices, ladder-like flower stems and deeply serrated motifs create a striking latticework pattern incorporating culturally-rich motifs with angular geometry. Harmonious Persian borders decorated with reciprocating medallions and serrated Herati leaves set over an azure background complement the angular style and clear colors featured within the field.
