Antique Persian Bakhtiari Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: 1920 – Here is an impressive antique Oriental rug – an antique Persian Bakhtiari rug. This fascinating and unique rug is characterized both by an impeccable attention to detail and unique pictorial medallion. Indeed, while a casual, superficial first glance at this antique Persian Bakhtiari rug may suggest that it is a conventional – albeit colorful – antique Bakhtiari rug, there is in fact a great deal more going on. The design of this fetching Persian carpet takes its cues from the celebrated Hunting Scene style, a popular theme in early twentieth century Persian rugs. Here, however, the treatment of the theme is unique, with the hunter figure, sword raised, depicted in the central medallion. Throughout the piece in several locations are remarkable depictions of deer, set against sky blue, seemingly contemplating the remainder of the piece. Rich tones pervade throughout the piece, with the deep blue and red commingling beautifully, creating a hint of violet. A beautiful antique rug, this antique Persian Bakhtiari rug is a masterful composition.
