Antique Persian Tehran Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Second Decade of the 20th Century – Antique Tehran carpet, woven in Persia (which is the modern day country of Iran) during the 1920’s. Featuring extraordinarily precise line work throughout, this impressive antique carpet is characterized by a classical allover pattern, and a general adherence to classical notions of Persian rug design. A beautifully orate series of borders frames the piece, with narrow pairs of inner and outer borders running the perimeter of a stately primary border of blue. All borders are replete with elegant, flowing vine scrolls and alluring floral details. Reds, whites, and shades of orange make for detail work that stands out from the background. Within the field, an elegant, repeating pattern of sickle leaves, floral details, and flowing vine scrolls unfolds against a pale yellow background. The elaborate detail work that fills the entire field infuses the carpet with a sense of grandeur; this antique Persian Tehran carpet is a stately composition, and an exceptional example.
