Antique Indian Agra Rug, Country of origin: India, Circa Date: Late 19th century – Agra, the capital of the Mughal Empire, is most popularly known as the home of the illustrious Taj Mahal. For centuries, it has been a cultural center for many Indian crafts, including the art of rug weaving. Many classic Agra carpets display themes based upon traditional Persian examples. This antique Indian Agra rug boasts a beige, caramel toned backdrop covered with scrolling vines and intricate, floral motifs. The middle panel is accentuated decoratively with a typical pattern of flowering branches. These exquisite features are expressed in a rich red colors, delineated boldly with dark lines and highlights. Frames of varying widths encircle the center of the rug, adding a level of geometric interest to the composition.
