Gorgeous Densely Patterned Antique Persian Heriz Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920
A red field, and almost none of it left bare — this is the densely drawn end of Heriz weaving. At the middle sits a stepped medallion in ivory and pale blue closing on an amber core, and the four corners are filled with the same soft blue. Everything between is packed with angular palmettes and serrated leaves.
The pale blue is what separates it. A cool blue runs through the medallion, the corners and the small figures alike, so the red has something to push against instead of carrying the rug alone — less common than a central medallion left to sit on plain red. A navy border closes it.
At 7 ft 6 in by 10 ft it falls in the 8 x 10 size band, the most usable proportion there is for a dining room or a main sitting room. Price is available on request, and the drawing can be rewoven at other dimensions as a custom rug.
