This elegant antique Asian textile showcases an intricate pattern of tessellating motifs, including lozenges and octagons, which are filled with decorative emblems.

Antique Textile, Laos, Late 19th Century – Exquisite and highly geometric, this magnificent antique textile from Laos depicts an advanced repeating pattern with harmonious decorations that have a primitive yet playful appearance. Subdued brick red tiles, crisp white accents and soft lapis blue figures create a tight repeating pattern that is set over an inky midnight blue field. Strong white outlines emphasize the geometric lines of each motif while emboldening the contrast between the somber background and the vivid foreground decorations. Angular birds with flamboyant tail feathers, star-like lozenges and grand geometric figures with intricate appendages are combined to form a richly decorative pattern that is filled with nuanced motifs, abstract patterns and charming birds.
