This stupendous example from the great weaving district of Heriz features a complex six-part garden separated by endless reflecting pools that display undulating ripples, inscribed cartouches and elaborate fountains. Each quadripartite garden depicts radiant Heriz style octofoils and graceful shrubs laden with rosettes. This kingly garden is enclosed by superb strap work guard bands and fiery brick-tone borders filled with fantastical turtles, filamentous vines, poly chrome Herati leaves and a multitude of floral ornaments. From the grandiose composition and lavish decorations to the sumptuous silk pile, this antique Persian garden carpet is an incomparable example of this beloved, highly recognizable carpet type.
