Antique Kerman Rug, Persia, circa 1900 – Classic Persian tradition reigns supreme on this stunningly lavish antique Kerman. Each golden medallion spewing its spiraled tendrils across the deep blue ground could be a rug in itself. But here this design repeats again and again across the surfacet as an allover pattern of lavish proportion. The smaller intervening or secondary medallions are filled with detailed arabesque ornament in counterpoint to the blue field. A palmette vine scroll border on a golden ground encloses the whole composition with consummate grace, recycling the dynamic thrust of the design back into the field.
