Antique Persian Tabriz Area Rug, Persia, Circa 1900 – Rendered in a classic triad of oxidized Persian blue, ecru and tawny brown, this phenomenal antique Persian carpet from the weaving capital of Tabriz features a regionally important Mahi pattern drawn in a dense, grandiose style. The intricately patterned field features an endless array of interwoven Herati motifs arranged in a series of nearly seamless repeats. The feathery Herati leaves and formal palmettes feature poly chromatic details and billowing contours that obscure the softly oxidized blue background. Formal guard bands depicting undulating vine scrolls flank the exquisite turtle and vine scroll borders that enclose the masterfully drawn field. Created circa 1900, this outstanding carpet features a superfluous Herati pattern paired with archetypal turtle and vine scroll borders that complement the beautifully decorated field without detracting from its impressive style.
