Antique Persian Sarouk Rug, Persia, 1910s – This unique medallion-and-corner carpet produced in the Sarouk region of western Iran features the elegant burnt sienna, camel, Persian blue, and dark sienna color scheme typically used by the great carpet weavers of northwestern Persia and Iranian-Azerbaijan. The unique eight-sided medallion consisting of tessellating mihrabs is surrounded by two vase-shaped pendants that radiate flowery arabesques across the carpet field. In addition to decorative corner pieces, the carpet field contains a secondary inner border comprised of interlocking turret motifs.
