Antique Persian Farahan Rug, Persia, Circa: Late 19th Century – Drawn in a lush curvilinear style, this regal antique Persian Farahan Sarouk rug is an archetypal city carpet with a splendid inset medallion and lush vine scroll decorations. Delicate floral sprays, arching saz leaves and polychromatic botanical motifs fill the sumptuous ivory field and exquisitely styled spandrels. Bifurcated calyces with spiraling tendrils give these supporting elements the decorative scalloped edges that are a hallmark of the region’s splendid medallion carpets. Lavish midnight blue main borders contain radiant rosettes, Shah Abbasi palmettes and pendulous floral sprays that trail around the large-scale motifs. The grand borders complement the patrician style and colors that make this antique Persian rug particularly elegant.
