Finely Woven Antique Haji Jalili Tabriz Carpet, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1900 — The light sandy tones present throughout the piece allow for clever instances of contrast to be established. Like many other Tabriz carpets by Haji Jalili, this one uses several borders to layer against each other, creating an elegant effect that seems to draw the viewer’s eye inward to the center of the work. Amidst the soft tawny background, there are beautiful instances of crimson petals and stems, creating a natural flow in the floral motifs present along the piece. At the center of the area rug is a beautiful depiction of flora sprawling outward from an elegant piece of pottery. Attention is drawn to every line through the use of the black background, creating an almost starry nightscape.
