This magnificent antique Tabriz silk prayer rug almost has the effect pale gold jewels set with rubies. The field consists of a columned niche or mihrab enclosing a tree of life emerging from a vase. Peacocks stand at the summit of the tree and to either side below. The borders continue the rich and dense detail of the field, as well as its coloration, lending an overall harmony or unity to the entire composition.
