Fine Antique Persian Mohtashem Kashan Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Turn of the 20th Century – Here is an absolutely spectacular antique rug – an antique Persian rug, attributed to the legendary weaver Mohtashem Kashan. Woven at the turn of the twentieth century, this remarkable antique rug is characterized primarily by its extraordinarily richly detailed field. An allover pattern of interlaced eight-pointed stars comprises the entirety of the field, with a series of contrasting tones utilized at regular intervals, adding an exciting dimension of color. The exquisite detail work throughout becomes only more impressive upon closer look, and is consistent with the incredible virtuosity of Mohtashem Kashan. Uniquely, this antique rug is bounded on the lower horizontal border by an intriguing French language quote: “Onrecolte ce qu’on a seme.” Roughly translated, the age-old axiom “you reap the seeds that you sow.” An intriguing, Biblical era sentiment on its own, this quote is especially intriguing in its position on this rug, which simultaneously gives it context, without actually grounding it any sort of specificity. An intriguing composition, this piece is both expertly crafted and fascinating.
