Tree Of Life Design Fine Antique Persian Tabriz Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: First Quarter Of The 20th century – 1910 – This extraordinary antique carpet is decorated with a prominent Tree of Life pattern with strongly arching branches and mosaic-like floral sprays. Tiny flowers and fruits woven in a combination of burnt sienna, ivory and oxidized blue are offset by the obscure midnight blue background. Pictorial scenes featuring leopards, horses and exotic animals border the lower part of the field while serpentine cloudbands, stylized animals and detailed palmettes decorate the oxidized blue mihrab. Ornate guard bands featuring Persian floral motifs complement the elegant composition. Exquisite borders decorated with a complex pattern of interlocking arches that typify the style of Tabriz complete this classic antique carpet.
